The Society

The Scottish Society of Charleston, Inc. was founded to honor and keep alive the Scottish heritage and customs in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Cherishing our past while preserving customs for the future, we host ongoing events in the Lowcountry which support the community and keep our rich traditions alive.

A History of Supporting the Lowcountry

On February 26, 1971, The Scottish Society of Charleston, Inc. was incorporated and founded as a non-profit organization. Since our founding year, we have hosted the Scottish Games to promote Highland heritage in the Lowcountry and donated significant funds to organizations throughout the area. We have donated thousands of dollars from membership dues and event profits to local charities including the Ronald McDonald House, Fisher House Foundation, Citadel Pipe Band, and International Seafarers Ministry, among many others. We also offer scholarships to students whose education focuses on different facets of Scottish studies. We are honored to have the opportunity to support the Lowcountry community while keeping our Scottish heritage alive throughout South Carolina and beyond.

Honor and Keep Alive the Scottish Heritage and Customs!

Scottish Events for Everyone

Scottish history is full of traditions, ceremony, and a strong sense of family. As the only source for Scottish culture and history in the Charleston area, we take pride in our mission to preserve Scottish customs in the Lowcountry. The Society gives members the opportunity to connect with others who share the same culture and genealogy.

The Society also hosts events for the community throughout the year. From the Sponsors Reception, Kirkin o’ the Tartan, and Scotch Whisky Tastings, to the annual Charleston Scottish Games & Highland Gathering, the Society is the area’s source of Scottish culture and fun.

The Society has a passion to bring alive the fun and festivity that surrounds Scottish traditions. From wee bairns to Scottish enthusiasts and all visitors in between, our events provide entertainment for every age. Experience exciting Scottish traditions as history comes alive!
